Baker and Taylor Inc’s EDI Van Migration

September 16th, 2008

What does it mean to me?

Baker & Taylor will be consolidating all of its VAN traffic to the Sterling Network as of 10am EST,  Thursday October 2, 2008

What must I do?

There is nothing for you to do. UnitechEDI is working with Baker & Taylor, Sterling, and ICC to make this happen. We hope for a smooth transition, but if you do not receive expected Purchase Orders or have trouble sending EDI files to Baker & Taylor, please contact pierre_mccoy@stercomm.com. He is the person at Sterling monitoring Baker & Taylor’s mailbox. Please do not send a support request to UnitechEDI unless Sterling cannot resolve the problem.

In order to avoid any possible timing issues while the VANs are being switched, it would probably be better not to send any EDI files to Baker & Taylor between 9AM and noon on Thursday.

Normally when an interconnect of this type is required, you would be charged a $25 monthly interconnect charge, but due to a special arrangement with UnitechEDI and ICC, this cost will be waived.

This is our best thinking on this matter. For confirmation you should contact your Baker & Taylor representative. For more information contact (800) 330-4094 or support@unitechedi.com

What does it mean to me?

Amazon is adding a new fulfillment center in Plainview Indiana due to be active 9/1/08

What must I do?

Add SAN 8014531 along with it’s address into the customer ship-to record of your fullfillment system. You can do this now. UnitechEDI will alert you when the programming is ready to access that center to [Update Software]

This is our best thinking on this matter. For confirmation you should contact your Amazon representative. For more information contact (800) 330-4094 or support@unitechedi.com

Amazon Canada GST Tax

August 6th, 2008

navamazonlogoprime_v1833376_1.gif

Although the Amazon specifications still show a requirement that tax be included on a line item basis for 810 EDI invoices, Amazon Vendor Management has amended this as follows:

At 11:42 AM 5/14/2008, they wrote:

Rich,

The tax can be sent at summary level and is no longer required by line.

Thank you.

One of our publisher clients has also offered this information pertaining to paying GST tax on freight: try to arrange for Collect shipping so tax need not be paid. This way the EDI system need not be modified for this special requirement.

This is our best thinking on this matter. For confirmation you should contact your Amazon representative. For more information contact (800) 330-4094 or support@unitechedi.com

What does it mean to me?

Amazon is changing the EDI specification for the 856 ASN. This requires programming changes by UnitechEDI.

What must I do?

Update Software now. This will include the new required HL02 segment.

This is our best thinking on this matter. For confirmation you should contact your Amazon representative. For more information contact (800) 330-4094 or support@unitechedi.com

Amazon EDI Changes to PO Dates – July 8, 2008

July 9th, 2008

navamazonlogoprime_v1833376_1.gif

Source: email from Amazon July 8, 2008 (and a reminder on July 25)

Analysis revised by UnitechEDI 08/10/08

Amazon.com will make an adjustment to the shipment dates communicated in the purchase order. These will be the dates between which Amazon.com expects to pick up the purchase order. For POs that are to be picked up on a specific date, the window will have the same date listed in both date fields.

This may require a change in your ERP system to be compliant. Today, some vendors use the first date in the window, which typically matches the order date, to trigger fulfillment events (pick and pack). In that case, a change must be made to your ERP system to ensure that the freight is ready at the expected pick up date.

The change from Amazon will appear on all new purchase orders on and after July 31st, 2008.

What does this mean to you?

Before doing anything, be sure to ask your Amazon buyer if this applies to you. It might not.

If it does apply to you, your ERP system is already set up to import the  pick up start date. It does not currently have the ability to import the second date, which Amazon is refering to as the pick up end date. For this reason, the translator does not include the second date in the file that you import to your order processing system.

The two dates are printed on the PO Detail report (recv_rpt.ama) which is found in the \850 folder as follows:
==============================================================================
Sender ID: AMAZON PO Date: 07/07/08 Cancel Date:
Requested Date: 07/07/08
Don’t Ship After: 07/14/08

What must you do?

If your Amazon buyer tell you that this does not apply to you then you need do nothing.

Otherwise, beginning July 31st, 2008, you will need to review the PO Detail report for Amazon orders and possibly manually update the date in your order processing system if a field for it exists. We suggest that you use this manual method for at least a week or two. If after that time you would like to have both dates integrated into your ERP system, please let us know. The cost will be based on what you would like to have done. There would also probably be a charge from your ERP vendor should you want a program modification.

Technical info for ERP vendors

What EXACTLY is changing? No fields will be added or removed from the 850 EDI document itself. Currently, on the header of the 850 EDI document (purchase order) there are two dates in DTM 064 and 063 (see below). These dates had typically represented order date and a date 7 days after that. After this change, the two dates will be the window in which Amazon expects to pick up the freight. If you have agreed upon a specific day of the week for pick up, both dates will fall on that day of the week. If your pick up dates are not fixed, this window may vary.

**Update July 2** New Amazon.com Warehouses

July 3rd, 2008

navamazonlogoprime_v1833376_1.gif

Source: Email from Amazon dated July 2, 2008

What does it mean to me?

In their previous announcement, Amazon stated that the date that orders will start being sent from the 3 new warehouses was August 1,2008. It turns out that this date was a mistake and the actual date was July 1,2008.

What must I do?

You should follow the steps outlined in our analysis of the original Amazon announcement. In addition, if you received any orders from the 3 warehouses which caused errors on your system, please use the [Request Support] button on the UnitechEDI dashboard so we can help restore those orders.

This is our best thinking on this matter. For confirmation you should contact your Amazon representative. For more information contact (800) 330-4094 or support@unitechedi.com

New Amazon.com Warehouses

July 2nd, 2008

Source: Email from Amazon dated July 1,2008

What does it mean to me?

Amazon is opening 3 new warehouses and has changed the address for 2 existing warehouses. You will need to make changes to receive orders from them.

What must I do?

UnitechEDI clients all use SAN codes instead of the Amazon FC code. You can disregard the section about FC codes. You need to [Update Software] from the UnitechEDI dashboard in order to process orders from these warehouses. You also need to enter these new warehouses as shipto records with SAN codes in your customer file and change your existing address for SAN 8002657 and 8001774.

You need to do this before August 1.

This is our best thinking on this matter. For confirmation you should contact your Amazon representative. For more information contact (800) 330-4094 or support@unitechedi.com
